LYDIARD FOUNDATION

Arthur Lydiard was a legendary coach from New Zealand. In 1960 three of his runners won medals (2 gold and 1 bronze) in the 1960 Olympic Games. In the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games his athletes won 3 more medals. He then went to Finland and helped Lasse Viren win 4 gold medals.

He gave clinics around the world until his death in 2005. He also wrote books on training that have been used all over the world. His last book summed up his principles and developed a complete training regimen for any runner preparing for races from 1500 meters to an ultra marathon.

Dr. Richard Brown, founder of Eugene Health and Performance Foundation and a friend of Arthur Lydiard, used Lydiard's principles to build a computer program that allows any individual to develop a training program just for them.

Using it a runner can:

  • Set training for anywhere between 10 and 24 weeks.
  • Work with a set of varied workouts designed for their goal race and ability level.
  • Understand which workouts are the most important each week.
  • Have a range of training paces dependent upon their ability and goal race.

The Lydiard Foundation, an organization devoted to sharing the wisdom of Arthur Lydiard's training methods with people around the world, has asked to use this program as the core of an online training system.

This association with the Lydiard Foundation helps EHP spread information on effective and healthy ways to train.
