FOUNDER BIO

Dick Brown coaches both the post-high school and post-graduate athletes in the Eugene Health and Performance Foundation. In 1978, after coaching 8 years at the Naval Academy and 6 years at Mt. Blue High School in Maine, he moved to Eugene to work as Exercise Physiologist and then Director for Athletics West, Nike's track and field club.

In 1983 and, again in 1984, members of Athletics West made up 25% of the national team, first at the World Championships and then the Olympics. In 1983 Dick was head coach for the USA Cross Country team which won the combined World Championship in Gateshead, England.

Dr. Brown, has coached thirteen Olympic and World Championship athletes in four disciplines: running, race walking, cross-country skiing, and Paralympic swimming.

In 1995, Dr. Brown was recognized as a Master Coach by USA Track and Field, the highest recognition in coaching education. He teaches a graduate course at the University of Oregon, conducts research, and continues to interact with the running program in the Oregon State Penitentiary System.

Throughout his career, Dr. Brown has applied his research not only to the training needs of world-class athletes, but also to the wellness needs of the average person. He has written several training and fitness books for the general population, and was a pioneer of water therapy for the rehabilitation of accident victims and sufferers of chronic disease.
