BOARD
RICHARD BROWN
Dick Brown is a graduate of the US Naval Academy (1960) and has a PhD in Exercise & Movement Science from the University of Oregon. He was the director of Athletics West in 1983 and 1984 when the club members comprised 25% of the USA 1983 Helsinki World Championship Team and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Team. He has coached endurance athletes in the last 5 Olympics. He has coached 11 different athletes who have appeared in 20 World Championships or Olympics. He also coached Mary Decker-Slaney when she won 2 of the 4 gold medals US women have won in distance running. He holds two US patents for training related ideas.
DORIS BROWN-HERITAGE
Doris Brown-Heritage is a member of the IAAF Cross Country World Governing Body and a member of the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame. She is a 5-time World Cross Country Champion and has represented the US on nine World Cross Country teams. She has won 14 national track titles and was on the 1972 US Olympic Team in the 1500. In 1971 she set the world record in the 3000. She was an Olympic Team assistant coach in 1984 and held the same position for the US World championship team in 1987. She currently is the distance coach at Seattle Pacific University.
BROOKS JOHNSON
Brooks Johnson is the Director of the USATF High Performance Program and Director of the ARCO-USOC Training Center in Chula Vista, California. He was also Director of Track and Field for the Walt Disney Corporation in Orlando, Florida. Brooks has coached at the University of Florida, Stanford, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He was the 1984 Head Women's Olympic coach and has personally coached athletes in sprints, jumps, throws, and distance in 9 Olympics. He is the originator of the "Critical Zone Concept" in coaching distance runners.
IRV RAY
Irv Ray has coached distance runners for 21 years. He coached at Azusa Pacific, California Baptist and University of Missouri Kansas City. He is currently coaching at University of California Riverside. In 1999 his team won the NAIA National Indoor championships. He has coached 11 national champions and three Olympians. He is a member of the Olympic Development Middle and Long Distance Committee for USATF. He co-authored the best selling "Run with the Best" with Australian Tony Benson. This book has been accepted as one of the IAAF Level 2 coaching books.
LEE RICE
Lee Rice graduated from the University of San Diego in 2007 with a Bachelors in Business Administration. He currently is a 3rd year law student at the University of Oregon. He is employed part-time with OregonPDF.
STEVE SCOTT
Steve Scott is a 3-time Olympian in the 1500. He was the silver medalist in the 1500 at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki. Steve is a 6-time 1500 national champion, has been ranked number one in the 1500 in the US 10 times, and has been ranked in the top 10 in the world 11 times. He has run under 4:00 minutes in the mile 136 times and currently holds the US mile record at 3:47.69, which he set in 1982. He currently is the head coach at Cal State San Marcos.
EDMUND SPINNEY
Edmund Spinney is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the law school of the University of Oregon. He currently is a trial lawyer in Eugene, Oregon. He ran for Athletics West and has run under 4:00 for the mile.
